Fun facts about me:
I enjoy travelling the world and learning about diverse cultures. I’m also a water addict – I play water polo at least once a week and like anything to do with water. My friends often refer to me as a “yippie” (combination of a hippie and yuppie). Growing up with European cuisine, my stomach is not accustomed to very spicy food.
I like enthusiastic people that strive for what they believe in. I think people should stray away from negativity when it comes to new ideas. Instead of thinking about why an idea is impossible to execute, they should consider why it should be attempted.
The company under 20 words:
The Startup Buddy is a founder-friendly online innovation, acceleration and fundraising platform for entrepreneurs, corporate innovators and investors across Asia.
What my company name & logo means:
The “I” in our rocket refers to our old company name “Investeur” which is a play on “Investment” and my last name “Teurlings”. We decided the logo should be green as green represents positivity and growth which is what The Startup Buddy stands for. The rocket in our logo represents our mission to accelerate/fast-track the growth of startups/entrepreneurs.
Why I started the company & my journey so far:
My co-founders and I felt it was too difficult to become an entrepreneur, especially in Southeast Asia. In order to build a successful startup, you need to become an entrepreneur first. Our goal in building The Startup Buddy is to equip all new founders with all the necessary knowledge and experience to build a successful company. The Startup Buddy is easily available for anyone with the ambition to build a business and it enables many more companies to become sustainable. Building this platform has been a lot of fun, hard work and much, much learning. Accelerators primarily exist offline. We aim to provide the same quality experience, but online, where it is easily accessible for everyone. We are constantly adding new features and content in our platform based on user feedback as we aim to create the best possible experience for everyone.
My lightbulb advice:
Start your entrepreneurship journey now. The earlier you start, the longer runway you have for more iterations to optimise your product/service, so don’t come up with excuses to wait, but just start. The earlier you become an entrepreneur, the less you have to risk.
